Our Philosophy

"Throughout my career I have worked for several fine organizations. I was proud to represent each, but never really became comfortable being the face of their limitations. I heard what the client was saying, recognized the need, but could only respond to the extent my company was willing to respond. Over the years I've watched an industry calling itself a 'service industry' grow rigid with standardization to increase profit margins. In an effort to seek a competitive edge by providing some inconsequential esoteric capability, efficiencies in fundamental areas like project management, turn around times and even basic document processing often suffer. Rather than vendors going out of their way to accommodate clients, it's now the client who must alter systems to match what the vendor is willing to do. I'm certain that of all the pharma outsourcing people that will ever read this, no one has ever been approached by a vendor who wanted to lower pricing as the result of a reduction in true capabilities. They can't possibly reduce pricing because they're forever paying for those new esoteric facilities they hope will make them just a bit different than the vendor in the booth next to them at the trade show. Take the term 'global'. This is such an over-worked aspiration in our business that a person could make a fortune specializing in globe-related marketing material. What does 'global' typically mean? It means they have a pin in a map; chances are it's an 'affiliate' facility and if you want anything other than basic capabilities, you're going to spend a fortune bringing up the methodology. If it's truly an a la carte business, why not say so? When a client asks if you perform a particular service in a specific area, why not say 'Not personally, but I'll put you in touch with the best in that field.' This is the philosophy behind GCP's mission statement; no doubt the most succinct you'll ever read."
